They work similarly to premium plugins, but without all the extra fancy features. There's no graphical representation such as Melodyne's or Auto-Tune's graphical mode. In our guide we talked about why mixing dynamic sounds is a tough egg to crack. When I use Protools, I use Autotune only in the graphical mode to tune up small sections of a vocal track. I use all kinds of hardware as outboard gear with Logic Pro x and Ableton Live, both recording and re-amping, and have zero latency. The Melodyne plugin is smart: it knows what sections you've used it on and automatically switches on or off in those sections. So, comparing Auto-Tune Access to flex pitch is a bit of an apples and oranges comparison.
The debate will likely rage over the ethics of pitch correction in popular music. While still presenting a learning curve for the new user, the Auto-Tune 7 interface remains familiar enough for experienced users. If you want Pitch Correction to work at its best, it's important to identify the root note and scale of the recording you want to process. We've had hundreds of replies and have dutifully passed all of them to Apple. In the past, I felt Melodyne was the clear winner here, but lately, it seems that all the Pitch Editors are quietly improving their algorithms bit-by-bit, version-by-version. The oddly named I-beam tool lets you select a section of the audio and drag it up and down the pitch scale, enabling you to re-pitch small segments of material.
Moving on to graphical mode, if you select 'Graphic', the window changes to a graph that can display a pitch waveform above. That way it is easier to choose between a freebie or a premium plugin. Step five: there is no step five. To use this, first set the Retune control to zero and increase the value until the start of any problem notes are in tune; don't worry about the sustained portions for now. If your license is for an older 32-bit version, you may need to purchase an to the 64-bit version. The four voice synthesis modules are where the fun resides with VocalSynth. I suppose you could bounce the whole track when you're done - if you want, but it hardly nudged my System Performance meter, so I don't see that as necessary.
Auto-Tune from Antares is so ubiquitous that it has not only become an industry standard for vocal pitch correction, it has morphed into a verb as well. Thanks to its ultra-low latency, Auto-Tune Live allows virtually instant response in performance or when tracking in the studio. The latter's switching between automatic and graphical modes creates a comparative disconnect between functions. Of course, Apple being Apple, I can't comment on which, if any, ideas will be incorporated into the mythical Logic 8 or whatever it'll be called because if I did, I would, as the saying goes, have to kill you. You can hear for yourself how, with a few simple adjustments, Auto-Tune Access helped this vocal shine. Have you used any of these plugins before? Playing back the song will draw the pitch waveform of the audio on the graph below. So, there are a lot of things to consider before choosing which plugin is right for you.
ChromaVerb is a high-end reverb plug-in that uses unique modeling to reproduce both natural and otherworldly acoustic spaces. The blue line the correction overrides the red line the original material's pitch. This free auto-tune vst plugin is simply amazing. That way, you can jump up and down in volume and pitch as you please! You may have to edit the notes, depending on how well Logic has interpreted the audio. At a fraction of the cost of the big boys in this class, VocalSynth doesn't offer the depth of control experienced with either Auto-Tune or Melodyne, yet it still manages to provide a reasonable job of pitch correction. I remember there were issues with some plugins and Quicktime in 10. T-Pain, Cher, Daft Punk, Tatayet, Black Eyed Peas, and so many artists have used it creatively, for getting this weird robotic voice feeling.
I get the feeling most people don't realize Autotune can sound pretty natural with the right settings and if the singer is at least close. It is like having a music studio inside your computer. A pitch-correction plug-in can save the day in these situations and, as we shall see, its effect doesn't always have to be obvious. We wanna know all your tips and tricks too. Pretty useful and pretty cool.
What if you've just performed the take of your life, with the exact feel you're after, but you've made a couple of slight tuning errors? It's a good idea to keep switching between the full track and the solo version, as sometimes a pitch problem won't actually be audible in a whole mix, and it might even add a nice feel to the song. Since it's the best-selling pitch correction software going -- and by a huge margin -- there are a lot of existing Auto-Tune users. Then click at the left of the area of the pitch waveform that you want to change, on the line that defines the note you want, and then double-click on the same line on the right of the area. They have priced this to be affordable with just the right feature set for very good vocal tuning results on average or better vocal takes. This exercise isn't over yet, so keep those suggestions coming and we'll continue to pass them on to Apple.
Or use distinctive digital sounds like bells, plucky bass, and brash leads. It rather kept decreasing the volume and waveform of my audio track. The range and nature of these adjustments takes vocal processing into some new territory.
